“Sommerloch”, Braunschweig’s annual festival celebrating Pride and queer identities, is taking place this year from 7 July – 8 August. To mark the event, HBK Braunschweig will be flying the rainbow flag along with a banner displaying the famous words of American writer and activist Audre Lorde, “We must be the change we wish to see in the world”.

The HBK’s Equalities Officer, Margaux Erdmann, said, “Protest movements and grassroots activism hold up a mirror to the things that need to change in our society and at an individual level.” HBK president Vanessa Ohlraun added, “Tacit agreement isn’t always enough. We want to actively demonstrate our support for equality of opportunity and freedom from discrimination.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Sommerloch festival will look somewhat different from usual this year, with events happening online and outdoors. For details, please see the website.
