Call
The Braunschweig Projects scholarship programme is part of the promotion of young artists at Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) and the state of Lower Saxony. The following scholarships are offered each year:
- Sound art (2 scholarships)
- Visual arts (5 scholarships)
- 1 Curatorial scholarship
Braunschweig Projects: Visual Arts & Sound Art
Scholarship holders should make a significant contribution to the further development of forms of artistic practice. During their year in Braunschweig, they will be supported by mentors/professors from the institute of fine arts. The mentors will offer the opportunity for artistic discourse, and also help fellows with their integration into the university and its broader network.
Braunschweig Projects scholarship holders will have the opportunity to present the current status of their artistic project within the university and are expected to take part in a final presentation.
Scope of funding & funding criteria
Funding is provided in the form of grants totalling 1,400 euros per month over a period of 12 months. A studio apartment in Braunschweig, designed for one person, will be made available rent-free for the duration of the stay (fees for incidental rental costs of around 150 euros per month apply). In addition, a travel and project cost allowance is available.
Funding begins on 01.04.2025. Access to the studio apartments is from 14.4.2025. All fellows are expected to spend at least 8 months during the HBK lecture period on site in Braunschweig.
The prerequisite for the award of a scholarship is a successfully completed art degree. The last degree must have been completed after 1 April 2014 and before 1 April 2021. Comprehensive artistic practice and exhibition activity must be. A scholarship cannot be granted if the applicant receives regular benefits from third parties (e.g. residence, work grants, salary payments) or state funding during the funding period.

Application
Applications in German or English should be submitted using the application form with specific reference to one of the scholarships advertised above to the following e-mail no later than 18.10.2024: application-bsprojects@hbk-bs.de (e-mail must be received by 11:59 pm, applications received after this will not be considered).
E-mails (RE: application-bsprojects / Braunschweig Projects 25/26 Sound Art OR! Fine Art) should not exceed 15 MB, otherwise they will not be considered, and must contain the following documents:
1) Fully completed and signed application form with personal details, curriculum vitae and project description (approx. 3 pages)
(PDF file, max. 1 MB/ file name: APF_ applicant name)
2) Evidence of artistic work: portfolio with any links to video and audio files of artistic works incl. password, if required
(PDF file, max. 12 MB/ file name: Portfolio_ applicant name)
3) Copy of graduation/degree certificate of most recent degree or certified translation in German
(PDF file, max. 1 MB/ file name: Degree_applicant name)
Applications which do not meet the above requirements (complete documents, correct file types, file names, file sizes, e-mail receipt) will not be considered.
It is not possible to apply for both scholarships at the same time.
